Bridges

When you lose a tooth or teeth, there are several options to replace that space. You could leave the space unrestored, or restore it with an implant, bridge or denture.

A bridge is a false tooth attached to the teeth next to the gap. There are several designs for a bridge and your dentist can discuss this with you once your bite has been fully analysed.

Bridges can be made of various materials:

  1. Metal e.g. Gold, Non-precious alloy

  2. Natural looking materials (e.g  porcelain fused to metal)- this is a more cosmetic option ensuring your tooth looks like a natural tooth

How it works:

Visit 1:

(a) The adjascent tooth or teeth next to the space are prepared carefully to a particular size and shape to allow it to be restored with a lab made restoration. We sometimes utilise certain bridge designs where there is very minimal drilling and this will preserve the natural tooth structure.

(b) An impression is taken of this prepared tooth

(c) The space is protected with a temporary restoration whilst the bridge is made in a dental laboratory to fit the tooth precisely and match the neighbouring teeth

Visit 2:

The bridge is securely fitted using bonding resins.

Benefits

  • Allow you to eat and bite down

  • Improves aesthetics

  • Maintains the space
