Dentures

One of the most common ways to replace missing teeth is a denture.  Dentures are removable and can be made of plastic or have a metal framework to hold false teeth. Dentures can replace a single tooth, multiple teeth or an entire arch of teeth. Dentures are only to be worn during the day and should be removed at night before bedtime.

What to expect at your appointment:

  1. Your dentist will discuss all the options available to replace missing teeth

  2. Impressions are taken and sent to the lab technician to cast up stone models

  3. You will attend several appointments, usually on a weekly basis, where your dentist will take various measurements and check the fit of the dentures

  4. Dentures are finally fitted and you will then be seen on a review appointment to address any issues with them

Dentures can take some time to get used to as they do not feel the same as your teeth. Initially your speech and taste may be very different but once you get used to them, things will feel a lot more normal.

Dentures can be made of acrylic (plastic), metal, flexible plastic and your dentist will advice you on what option is best for you
